| One word you'll hear repeatedly is "workflow". Who does what, at what point in the process, and where does it go from there. We have some clients who, after we make pictures for them, simply want the images and they take it from there.
Other clients prefer that we take the picture, retouch, color correct, silo the image with a clipping path, make a cast (not dropped) shadow, convert to CMYK and send to the film house.
Sometimes we work with a designer or art director on a specific project. Other times we work with a marketing manager who just wants to get some shots of a prototype while it's in this part of the country, and we have to envision where it might be used.
The digital workflow is a collaborative process. Try to gather the necessary info from the parties involved, or better yet, have them talk to each other. For example, even if our studio is not doing the CMYK conversions, I like to talk to the film house to get the ink and seperation settings because I refer to them in the Photoshop info box. Is there a photo lab involved for hard copy, and what are their preferences?
Get the whole team on board an you'll get great results.
